Straddling valleys and mountains, Phayao is a peaceful northern province full of amiable people and just enough culture and natural beauty to even captivate the interest of first-time visitors. The provincial town, or Muang Phayao, has numerous temples and enchanting communities that make it a fine detour for those driving to Chiang Rai, as we found out on a recent trip.
