curfew in yangon and prison for Suu Kyi
The junta announced curfew in Yangon and Mandalay, the hotzones of protest for the safron revloution calling for democracy. Will the monks defy the curfew and take out to the streets today ?
Last night CNN announced quoting reuters.com that Aung San Suu Kyi was moved from her place of home arrest to a notorious prison. There seems to be a total lack of details on this piece of information. Bangkok Post confirms this information from a reliable source, short of naming the source or providing further details. This development was quoted on CNN just before U S President addressed the United Nations General Assembly and i wonder why he did not address this in his speach.
I suppose Bush wont send his marines to Yangon to topple the junta. But think about it, Bush has nothing to loose. It is an opportunity for him to make ammends for his Afghanistan mission gone wrong. But then again, U S Marines failed in neighboring Vietnam, so will they jump into Yangon ?
The United Nations and the civilized world-at-large has been issuing supportive gestures to the pro-democracy movement in Burma. So far United States and United Kingdom has issued very strong statements. If only Burma's strongest ally, China could step out its cocoon, withdraw support to the military junta and talk some sense into them. And China should stop giving such politically correct statements that their policy is non-interference ! So far, Burma's other close allies, India and Russia has been silent on this issue.
